The Leader in the Age of Emerging Technology
The CTO Community India successfully concluded its transformative Beyond Code to C-Suite webinar series with a powerful session dedicated to the evolution of the technologist into the technology leader amidst the rise of AI. The session featured expert insights from Manish Jain, Ramender Mall, and Pradeep K Paijwar, skillfully moderated by Richa Kumari.

The Three-Part Executive Session
The concluding webinar followed a highly effective three-part format: dedicated Lightning Talks from each speaker, a dynamic Panel Discussion moderated by Richa, and an Open Q&A with participants.
Part 1: Lightning Talks – The Shift in Mindset
Manish Jain: Technology Changes, Principles Remain
Manish emphasized that true leadership requires a “balcony view” to understand adoption and human behavior. His core message: writing code is the easy part; driving adoption is the actual challenge. The CTO’s role is to guide change, not just build solutions.

Ramender Mall: The AI Rabbit Hole and the Shift in Cognitive Load
Drawing from his entrepreneurial journey, Ram highlighted the AI-driven shift in where cognitive load occurs. AI accelerates the first 80% of execution, meaning the real human value now lies in the final 20%-providing clarity, structure, and judgment. His insight: Unlearning is now as important as learning. Ram also introduced his new AI-powered venture

Pradeep K Paijwar: CTO Is a Mindset, Not a Designation
Pradeep stressed that C-Suite transition is an invisible one, defined by a shift from taking instructions to taking ownership. Leadership starts with defining the ‘Why’ and the ‘What’ before enabling the ‘How,’ and servant leadership is key to empowering teams who must now shift their focus from coding to writing precise, structured instructions for AI.

Part 2 & 3: Panel Insights and Strategic Q&A
The Panel Discussion focused on strategic decision-making, balancing product vision with architectural clarity, and redefining leadership in AI-enabled organizations.
A unifying insight emerged: Becoming a CTO is less about knowing more, and more about seeing differently.
Key Guidance from the Q&A:
- Encouraging AI Adoption: Focus on building internal champions and showcasing visible, immediate wins to spread usage socially.
- Fractional Leadership: Three companies is generally the realistic maximum for a Fractional CTO to maintain strategic depth and emotional presence.

Closing Notes: Purpose Over Complexity
The CTO role is the nexus where technology meets human behavior, and where clarity of purpose matters more than the complexity of the underlying code.
To rise to C-Suite leadership, technologists must:
- Practice “balcony view” thinking.
- Prioritize Why before How.
- Use AI thoughtfully, not blindly.
- Lead with humility, clarity, and curiosity.
