Highlights from Master Webinar: Pitch, People & Product – The Ultimate Startup Playbook!

CTO Community recently launched a new initiative to bridge the gap between startups, student innovators, and industry leaders, bringing together experts to share practical insights on building sustainable ventures. The session featured Raghavendra Mesta, Bhagyasrie M Masorkar, and Srinivas Guni, Richa Kumari who addressed some of the most pressing challenges founders face across people practices, product innovation, and investor pitching.

People: Building Teams & Culture

Raghavendra Mesta, CEO & Founder of Next Era, drew on 20 years of experience to emphasize that HR is not an afterthought,it’s a foundation. He highlighted:

  • The importance of scalable people practices from day one.
  • Designing fair compensation and benefits that build trust.
  • Prioritizing legal compliances early to avoid future setbacks.
  • Culture as the deciding factor for whether a startup can grow bigger and brighter.

He reminded founders that CTOs are business decision-makers as much as tech leaders. A CTO’s hiring choices, processes, and empathy shape not only products but also the organization’s scalability and credibility.

Product: From Idea to Scale

Srinivas Guni, CPTO of Appoctet & product strategist, broke down the three stages of product development:

  1. 0 → 1: From idea to MVP – focus on problem-solving, building only “must-have” features, and validating product-market fit.
  2. 1 → 10: Growth – repeatable sales processes, customer support, data-driven feature building, and solidifying a scalable tech foundation.
  3. 10 → 100: Hyperscale – sustaining millions of users, market expansion, robust infrastructure, and a strong leadership team.

He stressed that speed matters at the start (especially with AI tools), but long-term success requires balancing innovation with scalable architecture.

Pitch: Crafting Investor Confidence

Bhagyasrie M Masorkar, sales leader, reframed the investor pitch beyond “slides and storyboards.” A winning pitch, she explained, rests on:

  • Clearly identifying the pain point.
  • Showcasing a valuable solution.
  • Laying out a clear revenue model.
  • Demonstrating strategic partnerships for market growth.

She outlined what investors really care about: retention rates above 70%, sustainable customer acquisition costs, high lifetime value, and transparent communication. A pitch should create believers, not just buyers, by showing trustworthiness, traction, and a compelling vision.

Hot Topics Discussed

Richa Kumari – She brings together diverse voices and perspectives, guiding the flow so that insights connect rather than remain in silos. The panel and participants engaged in lively discussions on:

  • Hiring for skills vs. culture fit – balancing technology needs with emotional alignment.
  • Choosing co-founders – assessing both data and cultural fit for long-term success.
  • Legal compliances for startups – from company registration to labor laws and GST.
  • Deep tech challenges – managing compliance in regulated industries like aviation.
  • First-time founders – the importance of MVP validation, networking, and full-time commitment.

Key Takeaways for Leaders & Founders

  • People first: Culture and compliance are as critical as code.
  • Product discipline: Launch fast, validate, and scale wisely.
  • Pitch smart: Investors back clarity, traction, and resilience, not just ideas.
